Tata Nano project for Orissa?
2008-08-24 12:54:04
Chairman Ratan Tata has threatened to withdraw the Nano project from West Bengal if the agitation at Trinamool by Mamata Bannerjee continues. She is demanding the return of 400 acres acquired for the project to the original owners, the farmers.

Orissa Chief Minister said today that the Tatas are welcome to set up the plant in Orissa. About 2000 acres of land are under the possession of the Tatas in the Gopalpur area to set up a steel plant. The company's proposal to develop a Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Gopalpur was approved in May.

All the opposition leaders and state CPI leaders seems to support the establishment of the Nano project in Orissa. All seem to agree that such a project would benefit Orissa.

However, Orissa does not appear to be the only state to open up its arms to the Tatas. Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh has also invited Tata Motors Chairman Ratan Tata to set up the project in the state if he decides to move out of West Bengal.
